Kia ora. Why this obsession with birds?

Easy, Aotearoa (New Zealand) is home to birds. Flying birds and flightless birds. And bats. And sea mammals. Which are a bit harder to photograph if you are on land. Oh and don't forget the bugs, lizards and other critters. Everything else is invasive and a pest. Most birds are also less scared of humans than most mammals and are therefore easier to encounter... I also think that they're funny and beautiful.

With that out of the way. Please enjoy a display of the manu (birds) I have encountered in 2024 so far, on many outings to the wai (water), along the coast, the river, the bay, but also the forest.

Enjoy and stay safe out there in the wild!
